Hi, i have been playing guitar for about 9 months now. It has come, the time for me to change the strings of my acoustic guitar. I have 2 questions. Firstly, how do i find out what type of strings i have been playing all this time? (The guitar was a present and i have no idea how to check) and secondly, what strings do you guys recommended for my next set? (nylon or steel?) Thanks in advanced.

You should take your guitar to a local guitar store and ask them what Gage of string is on there. They should be able to tell. You can have them show you other gages and types of strings already on guitars. As far as switching to nylon or steel strings you should ask the the guitar tech at thestore if its even feasible. An entirely new setup maybe necessary to even switch(truss rod adjustments/bridge work). At any rate just take it to your nearest guitar dealer. They can definitely answer your questions and they sell the strings anyway.
Well, first of all, there is only one choice in the nylon/steel issue: if the strings looks plasticish, then they are nylon. If they look like metal, then they are steel.
The second issue, you would really have to take to a guitar store, but generally and almost 95% of the time, stock guitars will come with gage ., just go to a store and ask for some strings, they will ask what gage and you will tell them 9.
and last, on my acoustic, because i like the smoothness and how long they last, i use COTED elixir strings. they last a loooong time.
